Best Bison at College GameDay

What do you do when your trailer happens to sit underneath the camera of a nationally televised live show? Well, we decided to put a banner on top of it and tried recruiting the kicker of our hometown team. With millions of people watching on tv, thousands more chiming into the conversation on Twitter and the same number in person, we wanted to get ahead of the conversation while also reacting to it.

We traveled to Lincoln, NE to capture content as it happened because that’s what social media is all about. It’s about leading and reacting to conversations. And it made a difference. The engagement of our social efforts hovered around 5% compared to some of our competitors who saw 0.2% with photoshopped images.

We went all in on the kicking game, or lack of…

The kicking game had been a pain point so we wanted that to lead the social media push as well as the signs we had up around College GameDay. One of our promos depended on the home team hitting a field goal and as with any sporting event, they can be unpredictable. We were ready to go regardless of the outcome and pushed sponsored tweets beforehand resulting in an 11% increase in their followers. Now if only they would have hit a field goal.

This was the tweet we would have sent if they kicked a field goal.

But they didn’t. So we’re still sitting on it.
